Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and butter a 9×13-inch baking dish.

If using puff pastry sheets, place them in the baking dish and bake in the preheated oven until golden brown and crispy. If using croissants or phyllo dough, follow the package instructions for baking.

While the pastry is baking, prepare your nut mixture. Chop the assorted nuts into small pieces and combine them with raisins and shredded coconut in a bowl.

Once the pastry is cooked and cooled, break it into pieces and mix it with the nut mixture in the baking dish.

In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it starts to boil. Stir in the sugar and vanilla extract (if using) until dissolved.

Pour the hot milk mixture over the pastry and nut mixture in the baking dish, ensuring it is evenly distributed.

Spread a layer of whipped cream or Cool Whip on top of the mixture in the baking dish.

Place the dish under the oven’s broiler until the top is golden brown and slightly caramelized. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning.
